The municipality of Dronten has been committed to sustainability and energy saving for many years. The municipality has been CO2 and energy neutral for several years and is a leader in this in the Netherlands. Naturally, public lighting has also been critically examined, which accounts for approximately 35% of the municipality's energy consumption.
Dronten has 9,800 public lighting fixtures, of which 2,603 are Industria Luxor fixtures. The plan was initially to completely renew 333 fixtures, but this did not fit well with the municipality's sustainability policy.
Bart Voorn, electronic specialist at the Municipality of Dronten, together with Industria, looked at the possibilities of keeping the fixtures and only replacing the interior with the Luxor RetroLed Module. It was necessary to check whether the existing fixtures could last another 20 years, because that is the standard. The quality of the plexiglass, among other things, was surprisingly good, so the choice could be made not to renovate but to obsolete.
An excellent choice from a cost perspective, because the cost of replacing 2603 fixtures was approximately equal to replacing 333 complete fixtures and results in energy savings of more than 50%. LED is many times more energy efficient than PL and the Luxor RetroLed Modules can also be dimmed at night. The total saving on energy costs on public lighting in Dronten amounts to approximately €30,000!
The municipality of Dronten has been working with the Van Gelder Group for a long time. Van Gelder specializes in the design and realization of above-ground and underground infrastructure solutions and the management and maintenance of infrastructures.
The implementation of the project is going well. An aerial platform with inverter is used so that each fixture can be tested separately. Replacing the old PL lamp took more time than renewing the entire module. Recently, 2 technicians fitted 200 fixtures with a new module in one day!
Mike Vierhuis, Van Gelder's executor on this project, lives in the neighborhood where the new modules have already been installed. He indicates that the fixtures have remained visually the same, including in terms of light color, but that the light is distributed much better.
The photo shows that cooperation between all parties is going well. Satisfied customers and residents, that is Industria's goal.
