Expertise, good cooperation and short lines in Wijk bij Duurstede

The municipality of Wijk bij Duurstede has set the bar high when it comes to circularity and sustainability. The elimination of public lighting is part of this. More than 70% has already been lost and the municipality wants to add 10% to this every year. Tom van Boggelen, advisor on road, traffic and public lighting management, is responsible for this at the municipality. The relationship between performance, costs and risks is examined and mapped out every time. Tom leaves nothing to chance!

Recently, an energy-efficient solution was sought for 220 relatively young Iridium fixtures. Tom van Boggelen sat down with an advisor from Hoebink and Marc Wonink from contractor Speer Infra to discuss what the best solution would be. Sustainability and circularity are very important within the municipality, so it made sense to opt for a retrofit solution.

The experts from the municipality, Hoebink and Speer Infra have jointly drawn up a list of proportional requirements and conditions. Which means not demanding too much and thinking in a solution-oriented way so that it would be a successful tender. In addition, they had decided that it would be a mini-competition and that a demo model had to be supplied. Each requirement would be rewarded with a number of points if it was met. The delivery time, price and installation speed were important aspects, but also the presentation.

The information provided by the various parties was first checked extensively on the demo model. Official measurement reports were used. OliNo measured the modules in the fixture, these results were used in the assessment.

Product knowledge was important during the presentation, but the installation speed was also checked. Marc Wonink, from contractor Speer Infra, stood there with a stopwatch! As a specialist in the installation and maintenance of public lighting, he considers installation speed to be an important point. Faster installation naturally also means lower installation costs for the municipality. In less than 5 minutes the old lamp was replaced with the new Industria module.

The municipality of Wijk bij Duurstede has opted for Industria's solution. In addition to the quality of the product, the price and the fast switching, there were a number of plus points. The existing fixture consists of a plastic shade with a glass 'sphere' underneath to protect the lamp. The glass is omitted in the new situation, which not only saves time during installation but also provides up to 10% better efficiency. The old lamps had a lifespan of 3 to 4 years, the new modules 20 years. With a payback period of 5 years, that aspect is also very favorable.

Tom van Boggelen also likes that the amount of packaging materials is limited as much as possible and that the modules are produced in the Netherlands. The latter is positive from a sustainability point of view, but is also practical for repeat orders. Thanks to Industria's smart packaging, the modules took up less space and the contractor was able to take enormous quantities of units to the work site. All modules were installed by Speer Infra within a week on the main roads in Wijk bij Duurstede. This speed obviously saves costs, but it also meant minimal inconvenience.

Expertise, good cooperation and short lines, these are also strong points of Industria.
